What is a VPS NAT (Shared IP) and why we don’t use this model at BH Servers

When you search for a cheap VPS, you’ll probably come across providers offering what is called a VPS NAT, also known as a server with a shared IP. This model may look attractive at first, but it’s important to understand what it really means and the limitations that come with it.

What is a VPS NAT?

A VPS NAT is a virtual server where multiple clients share the same public IP address. In this setup, the provider creates port forwarding rules (NAT – Network Address Translation) to give each client some level of external access.

In other words, instead of having a dedicated and exclusive IP, you are limited to a set of pre-defined ports, since the IP is divided among several users.

What are the problems with VPS NAT?

Even though it helps reduce costs, the VPS NAT model comes with several disadvantages:

  • Port limitations: you don’t have full freedom to open or configure services.
  • Less flexibility: some applications simply don’t work well under this model.
  • Reputation risks: since the IP is shared, any abuse from other clients can affect you (blacklists, blocks, restrictions).
  • Less privacy: your server loses its own online identity.

Why BH Servers doesn’t use VPS NAT

At BH Servers, we believe every client deserves full control over their server. That’s why all our plans include a dedicated IP VPS server, with no hidden restrictions and no extra cost.

  • You can configure any service without port limitations.
  • Your IP is exclusive, avoiding issues caused by other users.
  • Greater security and online reputation, essential for serious projects and businesses.
  • If another client generates abuse, it won’t affect your account. With a shared IP, your service could lose access to certain platforms or even lose connectivity if the abuse is severe.

What if there is demand for VPS NAT?

For now, we’ve chosen not to use shared IPs, because our priority is quality and freedom for our customers. However, if demand grows in the future, we may offer it as an option, while always making the differences and risks very clear.

Conclusion

A VPS NAT may look cheaper, but in practice it brings restrictions and risks that end up costing more. At BH Servers, you can count on a dedicated IP VPS server in every plan, ensuring more freedom, security, and performance for your project.
